Applications should consist of:
- UCSC REU application form. Our application form is an online form and can be found here. Please look over the questions, type them out and cut and paste them into the form when you are ready to submit your whole application. Click here for the application.
- Two letters of recommendation. At least one must be from a science professor or academic professional (such as an instructor or teaching assistant) who knows your school work well enough to address that in their recommendation.Please inform your 2 recommenders that they will receive an email with directions on how to submit their letters.Letters should be submitted in the form of a PDF file named as: Lastname_Firstname_REU_letter.pdf. Please make sure you give these explicit instructions to your recommenders!

Eligibility: Any U.S. citizen or resident alien (green card) who is an undergraduate student, and who will not have graduated before fall of 2014, is welcome to apply. You must be enrolled in an undergraduate program at the time of the internship. We encourage applications from groups under-represented in the sciences.
Stipend/Accommodations: REU students will be paid a $4,000 work stipend ($500 per week) for the 8-week program. All students will be housed on campus at no additional cost. Students will also receive a $1,280 food stipend ($160 per week). Each student can use this to purchase their own food to cook or purchase dining hall meals on campus (~$7.50 per meal). In addition, most travel costs will be reimbursed at an average cost per student of $300. All student support funding may be subject to Federal and/or State income taxes.
